Best Time to Take

No study establishes a best clock time for cod liver oil specifically. The nearest evidence is general omega-3 timing work, which found no meaningful difference between morning, midday, and evening [14].

What does matter is fat. A 2019 review found an omega-3 concentrate taken with a fat-containing meal reached higher bioavailability; a 2015 review found a low-fat meal cut absorption [14].

Cod liver oil carries vitamins A and D as well, both fat-soluble, so a meal rather than an empty stomach is the consistent recommendation [14].

For belching or diarrhea, the Arthritis Foundation — cited in that same review — suggests splitting the dose across two meals [14].
