E315 — Erythorbic acid
Why it’s used
A synthetic antioxidant, a mirror-image isomer of vitamin C, used mainly to preserve color and slow oxidation in processed and cured meats, and in some beverages and baked goods. It has negligible vitamin C (nutritional) activity — it's used purely for its antioxidant/color-protective effect.
